Medical Director
After receiving his M.D. degree at Michigan State University in 1991, Dr. Tay completed his first year residency in Internal Medicine at Naval Hospital Oakland, California. As a Health Profession Scholarship Program participant, Dr. Tay spent time with the U.S. Navy Submarine Fleet as an Undersea and Diving Medical Officer, before entering and completing his residency in Radiation Oncology at the Saint Mary's and Integrated Hospitals Program in San Francisco, from 1995-1998. Soon thereafter he became Board Certified by the American Board of Radiology in Radiation Oncology.
During his training and early years of practice, he developed special interests in brachytherapy and stereotactic radiosurgery. Since 1998, Dr. Tay has been in private practice with Radiation Oncology Associates in Reno, Nevada. Dr. Tay implemented a low dose rate brachytherapy program at Saint Mary's in 1998 and he became Chair of the Cancer Committee at Saint Mary's Regional Medical Center in Reno, Nevada in 2004.
When the Radiation Oncology Department at Saint Mary's opened in 2005, he took on the role of Medical Director. Among his accomplishments as Medical Director are the establishment of cancer clinical trials, implementation of intensity modulated radiation therapy, high dose rate brachytherapy, and now stereotactic cranial and body radiosurgery with the Cyberknife technology. Dr. Tay has also been active as a consultant for a brachytherapy technology company, as well as a consultant for the the Northern Nevada Hyperbaric Center.
His memberships include the Washoe County Medical Society, Nevada Oncology Society, Wilderness Medical Society, American Brachytherapy Society, American College of Radiation Oncology, American Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology, and Cyberknife Society.
Dr. Campbell graduated from the University of Nevada School of Medicine in 1983. He completed a rotating internship followed by a residency in radiation oncology at Indiana University Hospitals and Clinics. During his training he was chief resident and also an American Cancer Society Clinical Fellow in his final year. He returned home to Nevada in 1987 and joined Radiation Oncology Associates, where he has worked ever since. He is a member of numerous medical societies including ASTRO, ACR, and the Nevada Oncology Society, and is on the staff of St. Marys Regional Medical Center, Renown, the VAMC, and Carson-Tahoe Regional Medical Center.
Beth L. Hummer, M.D. received her medical degree from the Medical College of Ohio in 1986. She graduated with honors in Oncology and Neurology. Following this, she did her internship in Internal Medicine at the Medical College of Ohio. Dr. Hummer went on to do her residency in Radiation Oncology at the Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, MI. from 1987 – 1990 and was chief resident during her final year. After residency, she stayed at Henry Ford Hospital as a senior staff physician in clinical practice as well as doing research. In 1992, she moved to Reno, Nevada and has been in private practice with Radiation Oncology Associates. Dr. Hummer is board certified in Radiation Oncology by the American Board of Radiology.
Dr. Legarza returned to her home state of Nevada to receive her M.D. from UNR School of Medicine. She completed one year of residency in Internal Medicine at Cottage Hospital in Santa Barabara, California before going on to complete four years of residency training in the specialty of Radiation Oncology at California Pacifica Medical Center in San Francisco, California. After graduating from residency in 2005, she worked for Radiation Medical Group in San Diego, California. She became board certified in Radiation Oncology that summer and then relocated back to Reno to be closer to family. For the last three years she has been in private practice as part of Radiation Oncology Associates in Reno, Nevada. She is an active member of the Cancer Committee at St. Mary's Regional Medical Center. She is skilled in intensity modulated radiation therapy techniques and high dose rate brachytherpy. She is one of the core team members for the development of the Cyberknife stereotactic cranial and body radiosurgery program. Her memberships include American College of Radiation Oncology, American Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology, and Cyberknife Society.
Roger D. Miercort, M.D. attended medical school at the University of Colorado in Denver, graduating in 1964. He completed his residency in Radiology at the University of Colorado Medical School in 1968. From 1968 to 1970, Dr. Miercort was on active duty in the U.S. Navy. In 1971, he established his private practice in Radiation Oncology with Radiation Oncology Associates in Reno, Nevada. From 1971 to 1998, Dr. Miercort was also the Medical Director of the Department of Radiation Therapy at Washoe Medical Center in Reno. Currently, he is the Medical Director of the Carson Tahoe Regional Cancer Services in Carson City, Nevada. Dr. Miercort received his training in Radiosurgery at UCLA. He is Board Certified by the American Board of Radiology.
Jennifer Boyden Sutton, M.D. graduated from Colorado College with a B.A. in Biology in 1985. Following this she attended Medical School at the University of Nevada/Reno, graduating in 1989. Dr. Sutton completed her residency in San Francisco at St. Mary's Hospital/West Coast Cancer Foundation in 1993. Following her residency she then did a six-month fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston focusing mainly on Head and Neck Cancer. Her other interests include Stereotactic Radiosurgery and breast cancer.
Surgeons
Dr. William Dawson is a graduate of the University of Tennessee College of Medicine. He completed his surgical internship at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia and neurosurgery residency at Semmes-Murphey Clinic in Memphis, Tennessee. Dr. Dawson also completed a Microneurosurgery fellowship at the University of Zurich.
Dr. Dawson received his Board Certification from the American Board of Neurological Surgery in 1975 and is a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. He is a founding member of Sierra Neurosurgery Group, Reno's largest and longest serving neurosurgical practice.
Drawn to neurosurgery because of its complexity and intricacy, Dr. Dawson continually seeks the newest and most innovative approaches in neurosurgical care. He specializes in the use of stereotactic radiosurgery to treat brain and spine tumors. Dr. Dawson is proud to be one of the founding physicians of the Reno CyberKnife team.
Dr. Fleming graduated with her medical degree from the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill where she was a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. In addition to her medical degree, Dr. Fleming holds a Ph.D. in Genetics from the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia where she was an NIH Predoctoral Fellow. She has been a private practice neurosurgeon at Sierra Neurosurgery Group since 1991.
Dr. Fleming is one of just a handful of female neurosurgeons in the West. She specializes in the treatment of tumors that impact the brain, particularly pituitary tumors. She is also one of the only surgeons in the region experienced with the use of vagal nerve stimulation to treat patients with seizures. Dr. Fleming is proud to be one of the founding physicians of the Reno CyberKnife team.
Dr. Khosla attended Loyola University-Stritch School of Medicine and received his Board Certification from the American Board of Neurological Surgeons in 2006. He is a Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Nevada School of Medicine in Reno, Nevada. In 2008, Dr. Khosla was a featured lecturer at "Neuro, Cardiac & More: 7th Annual Updates in Emergency Medicine" sponsored by the American Academy of Family Physicians.
Dr. Khosla's surgical specialties include the treatment of spinal tumors, artificial cervical and lumbar disc replacement, adult scoliosis, brain aneurysms and minimally invasive surgical techniques. Dr. Khosla's collaboration with the Reno CyberKnife team will focus on the treatment of primary and metastatic spinal tumors.
